With every Christmas, we return to the Middle Ages, the days of knights, of castles, of lords of the manor and evenings of madrigals. A musical and sumptuous fare, the Madrigal Feast returns to Skamania Lodge on Friday, December 14th and Sunday, December 16th. Produced by the Skamania Performing Arts Foundation at Skamania Lodge, in a few short years the Feast has become a Stevenson Yule staple, bringing out the best of the season.
A seasonal dinner from the Lodge Chefs is accompanied by the trials and tribulations of a lordship that must care for a deceased friend’s wife and daughters. Care for, as in marry off. This is the Middle Ages, after all. The evening builds to a rousing climax with three swordsmen fighting to determine their marriage opportunities. Do they? Or do they not get the girl?
And throughout, the Court Jester wanders taking samples off each and everyone’s plate, juggling and providing astute commentary to the evening’s developments.
The fire rages in the hearth. The wine flows. And it is almost Christmas again.
Almost. We need to discover, who marries who?
