Columbia Gorge Interpretive Center
Annual Auction
Silent Auction and music with Mark J and Too Much
Once a year, the Columbia Gorge Interpretive Center Museum
in Stevenson, Washington hosts a Silent Auction. The single
most important fundraiser of the year, this is not your traditional
evening out.
Created as collection detailing the full history of the Columbia
River Gorge, from the first migrations to the present day—the
Columbia Gorge Interpretive Center Museum demonstrates the
remarkable scope of geologic and human history in the region.
From the established native population found by the Anglo
explorers, to the development of the diverse economic base
in the early part of the 20th century with logging and fish
wheels powering the machine. With today’s growth of
the tourism and adventure related travel, this award-winning
museum informs and educates locals and visitors alike.
The Silent Auction allows friends of the Center to step up
creatively supporting the museum in one night of celebrating
the history of the region to insure the museum continues as
a fundamental block in our community. The support arrives
in the form of donations to the auction and leaves as purchased
“goods”. A true “local night,” this
is an unusual auction. The items are as likely to be dried
cordwood as they are to be a year of weekly pizza. For instance
this year, Bear Mountain Products donated a pallet of fire
logs and a pallet of stove pellets. Want to stay worm next
winter? Local shops donate gift certificates. Skamania Lodge
and the Columbia Gorge Riverside Lodge donate “nights”.
Napa Auto Parts donates the collectable model car of the year.
And the list runs on and on. This is an evening of whimsy
and practical. A night when shopping benefits the Center and
you take home more than just an evening out.
This year’s Master of Ceremonies will be Captain Tom
Cramblett, Master of the Columbia Gorge Sternwheeler out of
Cascade Locks. Like the Center, Captain Tom carries the history
of the region into modern times. His deep appreciation of
the Gorge becomes obvious in his narrative on the Sternwheeler’s
excursions from the Port of Cascade Locks. This night, though
land bound, will be another interesting excursion with Captain
Tom.
Join us. A bit of history. A bite to eat. And a bid to preserve
it for future generations. Always a good time. Never a dud.
