Stevenson’s Busy Tracks this Summer

In downtown Stevenson, the cherry tree in Walnut Park blooms indicating that winter is over, spring is here and summer cannot be far off.  For Stevenson, the Summer of 2007 is shaping up to be busy as always, with events and festivals touching almost every sensibility.

Opening with the Run for the Arts, an uncommon race across Bonneville Dam starting in Oregon and finishing in Washington. This run generates funds for Skamania Performing Arts Foundation (SPAF), an organization that produces high quality cultural events in Stevenson.

A couple of weeks later, the 14th Annual Brews,  Blues and BBQ, one of the longest running micro-brew festivals in the NW, brings great beer (a few select wines), hot blues and hotter BBQ to the Stevenson waterfront.  Add in the expansive views, and it is always a day to remember.

The Skamania County Fair, an exercise in old time down home country-- from 4H to dunk tanks to Ferris wheels.  With animals--from lop-eared bunnies to horses, music and typical fair fare in the food court, there is something for everyone at the last free County Fair in Washington.

Skamania County Fair Grounds will host weekly Folk Concerts on Wednesday nights. With the help of Skamania Lodge, SPAF booked a full Guest Artist Series into the new Lodge amphitheater.  With artists ranging from classical to Brazilian, this series spices things up.  Evenings of great music and great views.

This summer, think of Stevenson for your weekend.  Or for your week.  There is more going on than one would think in this little burg on the Columbia River.
